Twitter Account Sign Up Tricks

March 24th, 2009 | admin | Blog Posts

While signing up for a Twitter account is easy, there are some guidelines
that should be considered.  A little pre-planning will make your transition to Twitter painless.

First, try to get a Twitter account with your name.  This presents you to others on a more personal level and you won’t look like a spammer. Try to get your name in the format FirstLastname.  Don’t use the underline between first and last name, that is don’t use First_Lastname.  Also don’t get FirstLastname1, a username with a number after it.  Since Twitter has become so popular, you may not be able to get your name.  The next best name would be a name that can be associated with your niche.

Second, as you are signing up, you will be asked to look for your friends on hotmail, gmail, AOL etc. and invite them to follow you.  Don’t do this yet.  You don’t want anyone finding you until your Bio is setup.

Third, edit your Twitter account profile and set up your Bio and attach a picture. The picture needs to be 700K or less, square and in .jpg, .gif, or .png format.

The rest of the signup procedure is fairly straight forward.

Now you are almost ready to Twitter.  But wait.  There’s a couple of hints here too.

Start by posting (Tweet) interesting, helpful things you are doing. Space the Tweets out, 1 every 30 minutes or so.  Only do 4 the first day.  Then start doing a couple a day or so.  Don’t do any selling or promoting of products until you have posted at least 50 Tweets, and only then do it in a very subtle manner.  People aren’t following you to be bombarded with a constant promotion of your product.

How To Advertise With Twitter

March 23rd, 2009 | admin | Blog Posts

If you are looking for ideas on how to use Twitter for marketing, start being aware. If you are looking at TV news sites, look at how many of the newscasters are requesting Twitter comments. FoxNews Morning show is a good example. Just today, I see Lance Armstrong was injured in a bike race. Within hours he had sent a Tweet, that he was in pain, but OK. You see Lance has a lot of sponsors, but this is just a way of keeping his name in the public eye, a subtle form of advertising. Probably keeps the sponsors happy.

Want to Twitter Blog?

March 23rd, 2009 | admin | Blog Posts

If you are new to Twitter, you might have questions about it.  I found this article to give a good overview of what it is, what it is used for, why you might consider using it, or not.

What is Twitter?

In case you haven’t heard, there’s a "red hot" new messaging service sweeping the planet called Twitter. What’s Twitter?

Twitter is a free messaging service. Its been described as a micro-Blogging platform. Speaking in layman’s terms, it means you can send a text message (SMS length) either through a website, instant messenger or mobile device to your own customized Twitter page. From there you can add friends (similar to MySpace) who are also using Twitter.

Twitter has also been described as web-based chat. Because similar to Instant Messenger (IM), you have instantaneous communication to a group of people in a short form message.

However, out of all the descriptions I’ve heard about Twitter, this one from Rick McCharles Blog is the one I like best:

"Twitter, in a nutshell, is mobile social software that lets you broadcast and receive short messages within your social network. - mostly made up of mundane messages in answer to the question, "what are you doing?"

Here’s how Twitter describes their service:

"Twitter is for staying in touch and keeping up with friends no matter where you are or what you’re doing. For some friends you might want instant mobile updatesfor others, you can just check the web. Invite your friends to Twitter and decide how connected you want you to be."

How does Twitter work?

When you send in a mobile text (SMS), Twitter sends it out to your group of friends and posts it to your Twitter page. Your friends might not have phone alerts turned on so they may check your web page instead. Likewise, you receive your friends mobile updates on your phone.

So, what’s the point of Twitter?

Basically, it’s to let people know what you are doing now…right this minute.

For example, if I were a Twitter subscriber and you were on my friends list, I would send you a message telling you I’m writing an interesting article about Twitter right now.

So how did Twitter come about?

Well, according to information on their website, Twitter was born as an interesting side project within the offices of Odeo.com in March of 2006.

Twitter is part of the Obvious Corporation in San Francisco, California.

Is Twitter a fad?

Some people think Twitter is nothing but a fad. However, those same people said the same thing about Blogs.

Here’s what I think:

The networking and sharing ideas aspect of Twitter are obvious. However, Twitter could have a significant relevancy to marketing. For example, product reviews, surveys, contest announcements and much, much more.

And no one can deny that Twitter is a fast, easy and convenient way to stay in touch and discover the latest trends.

Fad? No. I think Twitter is here to stay.

What Is Twitter?

Twitter is a "microblogging tool". What does that mean? Instead of posting a blog, you post(Tweet) a short message limited to 140 charcters or less. Your messages must be short, concise and to the point. People will receive your messages, and they are called "followers". You can also "follow" others. Twitter is a social networking site, just like MySpace and Facebook. It is free to join. (read more)

If You Twitter, Listen.......

The first step in using Twitter to improve your blog is to "listen" to other people by reading and interacting with their updates. Making Money With Twitter

March 15th, 2009 | admin | Archive

More and more businesses are looking for ways to increase their exposure to potential clients.  In today’s market, no method should be overlooked.  Below is an article I found that gives some insights to Twitter marketing.

 Making Money With Twitter

Making Money With Twitter is certainly possible. By now everyone is either on Twitter or has heard of it. Twitter is now number 596 on the most visited websites in the Alexa ratings. Twitter, founded by Jack Dorsey, Biz Stone, and Evan Williams, began as a research and development project inside a San Francisco company Odeo in March 2006. It became Twitter Inc. in 2007
The Wall Street Journal has written, "These social-networking services elicit mixed feelings in the technology-savvy people who have been their early adopters. Fans say they are a good way to keep in touch with busy friends. But some users are starting to feel ‘too’ connected, as they grapple with check-in messages at odd hours, higher cellphone bills, and the need to tell acquaintances to stop announcing what they’re having for dinner.
That’s how I felt when I first heard about Twitter". Do I really want to know what people are doing during their days and do I want people to know what I’m doing? Now that I’ve tried it, I’m hooked. Its like a blog and it gives you a chance to express yourself . Of course, like all online things I’m sure people will get bored of it after awhile, but the serious marketers will use it to try and make money. After all, this is America, and where there’s a will there’s a way to make money. I’m not talking about Twitter itself monetizing the site. I’m talking about the users making money off of it.
The most obvious way to earn money is by putting your affiliate link inside your posts. You don’t want to do this too much though because Twitter is not crazy about it , and people realize you are just trying to sell them things. Another way to make money on Twitter is to get a user name that will draw attention to a certain market. For instance, you could choose the user name Boston Red Sox. You would probably get a lot of people, watching your page ,who are interested in the Boston Red Sox. Then, you could try and sell them things related to baseball or the Red Sox specifically. Thosse are two methods, maybe you can think of others.
