Twitter Account Sign Up Tricks

March 24th, 2009 | admin | Blog Posts

While signing up for a Twitter account is easy, there are some guidelines
that should be considered.  A little pre-planning will make your transition to Twitter painless.

First, try to get a Twitter account with your name.  This presents you to others on a more personal level and you won’t look like a spammer. Try to get your name in the format FirstLastname.  Don’t use the underline between first and last name, that is don’t use First_Lastname.  Also don’t get FirstLastname1, a username with a number after it.  Since Twitter has become so popular, you may not be able to get your name.  The next best name would be a name that can be associated with your niche.

Second, as you are signing up, you will be asked to look for your friends on hotmail, gmail, AOL etc. and invite them to follow you.  Don’t do this yet.  You don’t want anyone finding you until your Bio is setup.

Third, edit your Twitter account profile and set up your Bio and attach a picture. The picture needs to be 700K or less, square and in .jpg, .gif, or .png format.

The rest of the signup procedure is fairly straight forward.

Now you are almost ready to Twitter.  But wait.  There’s a couple of hints here too.

Start by posting (Tweet) interesting, helpful things you are doing. Space the Tweets out, 1 every 30 minutes or so.  Only do 4 the first day.  Then start doing a couple a day or so.  Don’t do any selling or promoting of products until you have posted at least 50 Tweets, and only then do it in a very subtle manner.  People aren’t following you to be bombarded with a constant promotion of your product.
